HILL ONE

The existing house of Hill One was a box built in the middle of a mostly flat lot carved into a hillside. Since our clients were interested in maximizing the interior and exterior spaces of the home, we began our solution with the demolition of the existing house and relocated the new design to the uphill edge of the property to maximize the usable outdoor space. It was crucial to create a dynamic flow between the interior and exterior along the edges of the garden. Cross axes through the house were designed to create dynamic interactions with an otherwise linear home. This resulted in the dissection of the linear vocabulary using layers of transparency, light, and spatial expansion.
